Lyrics
After all the fast cats in their flashy hats,
Have all cashed out and are taking the red-eye back,
Back to some well-worn path, back to some child-hood haunt.
There is a room nestled in some lost afternoon,
Shinin' on some books and some deflated party balloons,
Some wordless voice is callin', you only know it's a taunt.
And you commune with some friendly ghosts,
Who draw pictures with you of some rocky coast,
Where the winter is warm and the day-time is always night,
But do be careful, 'cause the party's been over for years,
Look closely 'cause the ghosts have already disappeared,
And the last one out, hast to turn out the lights.
And if you want to sleep tonight,
Just take someone else's bad advice,
And throw away a simple prayer,
Into beggar's paradise.
And just down-stairs there's a beautiful beaten girl,
You hear her cryin' and you want to promise her the world,
But you're too broke to even give her any spare change,
She looks so good in her tattered evening dress,
You want to save her, but you can't even clean up the mess,
She don't want you, she's madly in love with her pain.
But that won't stop you from laying your rose at her feet,
You're just like her 'cept your madly in love with defeat,
You hold your breath and wait for the dust to collect,
So take your knives and drive them into the wall,
Cry out to Mercy 'cause she can't hear you at all,
Stay where you are it'll be just what you expect.
And if you want to sleep tonight,
Just take someone else's bad advice,
And throw away a simple prayer,
Into beggar's paradise.
So climb the rope to the highway that never ends,
Into the den where they'll say that you were always their friend,
They've got ambrosia and you don't even have to resist,
You can fall a long time before you even touch shore,
You can stuff yourself full, but you'll always want more,
Where success and defeat don't exist.
The morning comes and showers you with unlearned grace,
And tears you from somebody's beautiful face,
Now you know what it's like be completely unmasked,
There's a buzzing, you thought you'd left that far behind,
You made a promise, told yourself you'd made up your mind,
But here comes' Maya, and you don't even have to ask.
And if you want to sleep tonight,
Just take someone else's bad advice,
And throw away a simple prayer,
Into beggar's paradise.
