Lyrics

The sun is beginning to set,
The children return to their homes,
And fathers bring home their failures,
As the mothers stand alone.
And the tension mounts at the table,
They speak while nothing is spoken,
They hope nothing is wrong,
And the frame isn't broken.

Everything's fine,
They've abandoned the search,
You can close your eyes,
When you reach the church.

From the chains of the school-yard to the bars of the home,
Children learn the dangers of truth,
They practice their lies, and the art of disguise,
From the well of their eternal youth.
They suffer abuse, and die of neglect,
While they're told to reach for the stars,
And the pain is ignored or buried beneath,
A vast assortment of scars.

Everything's fine,
They've abandoned the cause,
Don't step cross that line,
Into reality's jaws.

And they're all so weary of slavery,
As they watche the years unfold,
All of them ceaselessly searching,
For a pot of gold.

And is thinking of money,
And dad just thinks of escape,
They defined themselves way too early,
And for them there is no escape.

Is everything fine?
Do you remember your dream?
Did you step 'cross that line?
Or did you turn back and scream?

The sun is beginning to rise,
As the children escape from their homes,
They'll never escape the grip,
But at least they're not alone.
And they pledge allegiance to the flag,
It's all of the country they'll know,
And they're told all about freedom,
But it doesn't show.

Is everything fine?
Have you abandoned all hope?
Is the journey over,
And are you just trying to cope?
